Health Care Reform or Sick Care Reform?
I sat down to write a post about what I thought health care reform should be when I came across this article by Kim Evans that states my thoughts exactly. So thank you to Kim for providing the content for this post.
~by Kim Evans~
Health care reform is the hottest debate around, but unfortunately, Washington has it all wrong. Health care reform shouldn't be about who is going to pay for more drugs for people; health care reform should be about how to create and keep healthy people, so that symptoms of disease aren't apparent and prevalent.
In truth, health care reform should start with agricultural and dietary reform specifically by getting the literally thousands of allowed chemicals in our diets, out of our diets. It should be about getting the processed and chemical-filled foods off the shelves and making sure that the natural foods on the shelves aren't genetically modified, radiated, or have pesticides or man-made chemicals in them.
Health care reform should be about getting the toxic chemicals out of our shampoos and conditioners, you know, the ones people rub on their heads each day. My comment: More than just shampoos and conditioners....body wash, hand soap, hair spray, hair gel, hair mousse, deodorant, bar soap, household cleaners, dish soap, perfumes, hand lotions, laundry detergent, fabric softener…..all of the stuff that you are using on your body en masse and breathing in 24 hrs a day!
Health care reform should be about cleaning up our environment and finding more natural energy solutions, so that people aren't breathing in dangerous fumes from burning fossil fuels and other pollutants each day.
Health care reform should be about having cookware that isn't toxic like aluminum and Teflon are, and making sure it's widely available and affordable.
Health care reform should be about making sure renewable and non-toxic materials are used in home and office construction.
Health care reform really shouldn't be looking to add more chemicals to people's bodies no matter who pays for them; it should be looking to remove the hundreds of toxic chemicals (at a minimum) that are already in there, many of which have been there since birth.
Health care reform should take a look at the literally thousands upon thousands of available studies that show us that chemicals in our food and environment can cause almost every disease conceivable. Health care reform should understand the obviousness of the statement above, and not fight it tooth and nail, or deny its truth.
Health care reform should immediately end sugar and factory farming subsidies and shift them to sustainable, organic farms. Health care reform should end factory farming and genetically altering foods to avoid polluting the land, nearby crops, and people.
Health care reform should educate people about natural substances like coconut oil and garlic, and how to take them as effective antibacterial agents that don't destroy our immune systems.
Health care reform should get the mercury out of our mouths, fluoride out of our water, and aluminum out of any deodorant.
Health care reform should help people understand that the unnatural foods they regularly consume and chemicals they are continually exposed to actually do hurt them, even if it takes a little while for the problems to show up.
Health care reform should help companies admit when they are doing or making something that is harming people, instead of allowing the standard denial route, and it should then insure quick changes are made to a non-toxic route when a problem is found.
Health care reform should end the widespread availability of McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, and acidic soft drinks. Health care reform should teach people how to prepare delicious and healthy meals, using a multitude of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Health care reform should switch out dangerous and toxic choices for conscious and natural options, and do it in way that is affordable for everyone. Because returning to the way nature intended us to eat, and eliminating all of the common poisons in and around us, is really the only logical place to start.
When it's all said and done, health care reform shouldn't be about what's best for the drug companies, insurance companies, medical industry, politicians, processed food makers, pesticide makers, genetically altered foods pushers, or even oil companies. It should be about what's best for the people. You and me.

Are Cell Phones Safe?
All of the cells in your body resonate at certain frequencies. Cell phones emit frequencies in the same range as your cells do. This disrupts the frequencies that the cells use to communicate with each other. This can cause a multitude of problems if your cells are not communicating properly. The intercellular communication breakdown can impair or destroy the function of whole tissue systems and organs. Soon, cells become damaged, and over the long term, this damage can have serious effects, especially in your complex and delicate brain, which unfortunately, is right next to where most people hold their cell phones.
The compelling research from Dr. Om P. Gandhi, a professor and Chair of Electrical Engineering at the University of Utah, dramatically illustrates this:
When adults make a cell phone call, there is 30% radiation penetration into their brains; 50% radiation penetration into the brain of a 10 year old; 75% radiation penetration into a five-year-old. Professor Leif Salford, who headed the research at Sweden’s prestigious Lund University, says “the voluntary exposure of the brain to microwaves from hand held mobile phones is the largest human biological experiment ever.”
This comment from Dr. Robert Becker who is a long time researcher and well respected in the field of Electromedicine: "I have no doubt that, at the present time, the greatest polluting element in the earth’s environment is the proliferation of electromagnetic fields (EMFs). I consider that to be far greater on a global scale than global warming and the increase in chemical elements in the environment." - Dr. Robert Becker, twice Nobel Prize nominee, author, CROSS CURRENTS: The Promise of Electromedicine, the Perils of Electropollution
Several studies have shown that the increase in brain cancer in both adults and particularly children since the use of cell phones has been come so prevalent is shocking.
Other common illnesses and ailments, which have all been scientifically linked to cell phone information-carrying radio waves:
• Abnormal cell growth promotion and DNA damage
• Altered memory function, poor concentration and spatial awareness
• Alzheimer’s, senility and dementia
• Attention span deficit and memory loss
• Autism
• Childhood and Adult leukemia and eye cancer
• Fatigue
• Headaches
• Immune system effects
• Infertility
• Irritability, anxiety, depression
• Parkinson’s
• Sleep disruptions and sleeplessness irritability, anxiety, depression
Are we all going to give up our cell phones? Not likely. Even if you don’t use a cell phone you can be affected by all of the cell phone towers, satellites and WiFi that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. But with the research strongly pointing to a startling increase in brain cancer it would be prudent to alter the way that you use your cell phone.
And there are certainly things that you can do to me more prudent in your use of cell phones. The following are some pretty standard recommendations.
From the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute
FROM: Ronald B. Herberman, MD
Recently I have become aware of the growing body of literature linking long-term cell phone use to possible adverse health effects including cancer. Although the evidence is still controversial, I am convinced that there are sufficient data to warrant issuing an advisory to share some precautionary advice on cell phone use.
An international expert panel of pathologists, oncologists and public health specialists recently declared that electromagnetic fields emitted by cell phones should be considered a potential human health risk (see The Case for Precaution in Cell Phone Use, attached). To date, a number of countries including France, Germany and India have issued recommendations that exposure to electromagnetic fields should be limited. In addition, Toronto’s Department of Public Health is advising teenagers and young children to limit their use of cell phones, to avoid potential health risks.
More definitive data that cover the health effects from prolonged cell phone use have been compiled by the World Health Organization, International Agency for Research on Cancer. However, publication has been delayed for two years. In anticipation of release of the WHO report, the attached prudent and simple precautions, intended to promote precautionary efforts to reduce exposures to cell phone electromagnetic radiation, have been reviewed by UPCI experts in neuro-oncology, epidemiology, neurosurgery and the Center for Environmental Oncology.
Practical Advice to Limit Exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation Emitted from Cell Phones
1. Do not allow children to use a cell phone, except for emergencies. The developing organs of a fetus or child are the most likely to be sensitive to any possible effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields.
2. While communicating using your cell phone, try to keep the cell phone away from the body as much as possible. The amplitude of the electromagnetic field is one fourth the strength at a distance of two inches and fifty times lower at three feet. Whenever possible, use the speaker-phone mode or a wireless Bluetooth headset, which has less than 1/100th of the electromagnetic emission of a normal cell phone. Use of a hands-free ear piece attachment may also reduce exposures.
3. Avoid using your cell phone in places, like a bus, where you can passively expose others to your phone's electromagnetic fields.
4. Avoid carrying your cell phone on your body at all times. Do not keep it near your body at night such as under the pillow or on a bedside table, particularly if pregnant. You can also put it on “flight” or “off-line” mode, which stops electromagnetic emissions.
5. If you must carry your cell phone on you, make sure that the keypad is positioned toward your body and the back is positioned toward the outside so that the transmitted electromagnetic fields move away from your rather than through you.
6.Only use your cell phone to establish contact or for conversations lasting a few minutes, as the biological effects are directly related to the duration of exposure.
For longer conversations, use a land line with a corded phone, not a cordless phone, which uses electromagnetic emitting technology similar to that of cell phones.
7.Switch sides regularly while communicating on your cell phone to spread out your exposure. Before putting your cell phone to the ear, wait until your correspondent has picked up. This limits the power of the electromagnetic field emitted near your ear and the duration of your exposure.
8. Avoid using your cell phone when the signal is weak or when moving at high speed, such as in a car or train, as this automatically increases power to a maximum as the phone repeatedly attempts to connect to a new relay antenna.
9. When possible, communicate via text messaging rather than making a call, limiting the duration of exposure and the proximity to the body.
10. Choose a device with the lowest SAR possible (SAR = Specific Absorption Rate, which is a measure of the strength of the magnetic field absorbed by the body). SAR ratings of contemporary phones by different manufacturers are available by searching for “sar ratings cell phones” on the internet.
You can do an internet search or take a look at cnet to see the SAR rating for your phone.

Am I Drinking Enough Water?
According to studies the following disorders can be attributed to chronic dehydration:
• Asthma
• Allergies
• Dyspeptic pains (Heartburn, Gastritis, Colitis, Duodenitis)
• Chronic joint pain
• High Blood Pressure
• High Blood Cholesterol
• Stress/Chronic Fatigue/Depression
• Diabetes
• Angina
• Strokes
• Vertigo
• Deafness
• Glaucoma
• Cataracts
• Vitreous Detachment
• Uveitis
• Multiple Sclerosis
Conditions which have been labeled as “psychological” disorders can often also be attributed to chronic dehydration:
• Feeling tired
• Feeling flushed
• Feeling irritable
• Feeling anxious
• Feeling dejected
• Feeling depressed
• Feeling inadequate
• Feeling of a “heavy head”
• Cravings for coffee, tea, sodas and alcoholic drinks
• Agoraphobia (fear and dread of public places)
According to F. Batmanghelidj M.D. – Author of Your Body’s Many Cries for Water:
You need an absolute minimum of 6-8 8 ounce glasses of water per day. He suggests:
8 oz. ½ hr. before food
8 oz. 2 ½ hrs after food
8 oz. on rising in the morning
8 oz. before bedtime
Do not drink unfiltered tap water. Tap water contains chlorine and chlorine by-products. Most tap water also includes fluoride which is very poisonous. In addition tap water contains medications that have been dumped down drains and flushed down toilets. At this point there is no way for the water companies to filter these medications so think about the fact that you are drinking everyone else’s medications!
Your body does not “store” water, so drinking a lot of water all at once only causes you to visit the bathroom more as your body flushes out what it is not using. Drink throughout the day and evening. If you wait until your mouth is “dry” you are already beyond dehydration.
Some reasons why your body needs water every day:
Without water nothing lives.
Water is the main source of energy.
Water generates electrical and magnetic energy inside each cell of the body.
Water prevents DNA damage and makes repair mechanisms more efficient.
Water increases the efficiency of the immune system
Water is the main solvent for all foods, vitamins and minerals.
Water is used in the breakdown of food into smaller particles and their metabolism.
Water energizes food particles which then can supply the body with energy during digestions.
Water is used for the transport of all substances inside the body.
Water increases the efficiency of the red blood cells in collecting oxygen in the lungs.
So now you know how to drink the right amount of water throughout the day. Guess what else your body needs in order for the cells to function properly?
Salt! Yes, salt. Salt along with water helps regulate the water content both inside and outside of the cells. Good health depends on this delicate balance.
If you are drinking enough water (look for clear colored urine) then you are also passing salt out of the body. Do not add salt if you are experiencing edema until you are drinking the proper amount of water for at least several days.
Salt must be unprocessed sea salt. Here are some of the more vital functions of salt in the body:
Salt is:
Vital for extracting excess acidity from the cells, particularly brain cells.
Vital for balancing sugar levels in the blood. Needed for diabetics!
Vital for the generating the hydroelectric energy in all of the cells of the body.
Vital for nerve cells’ communication and information processing in brain cells from birth to death.
Vital for the absorption of food particles in throughout the intestinal tract.
Vital for clearing the lungs of mucous and phlegm, particularly in asthma and cystic fibrosis.
Vital for preventing inflammation of mucous membranes particularly of the nose, throat and sinuses.
Is a strong antihistamine.
Essential for the prevention of muscle cramps.
Vital in preventing excess saliva production particularly noticed while asleep.
Vital to making bones firm. Osteoporosis in a major way can be attributed to a shortage of salt and water in the body.
This information just touches on the basics of the needs for water in your body. For more detailed information visit:
At the very least you can start drinking water in the amounts and at the times listed above. And who knows. Maybe many of the symptoms that you have been having will just disappear!

Whats That? "I Can't Afford To Buy Organic!"
Many grocery stores now carry a section of organics. I admit that in some stores their “organic” selections look less than appealing so find stores that have a nice selection. And let the store manager with the less than appealing selection know that you are less than happy with their choices! If you have a Trader Joe’s near you they often have a fair selection of organics which are of good quality. Or try a farmer’s market near you. Your kids will enjoy the outing! Or grow your own in your very own organic garden! Yes it takes some time but both you and your kids will have fun, it’s less expensive and it tastes great! Your kids will learn that food isn’t “manufactured” and that it doesn’t come in a box. Future posts will provide more info on starting your own garden.
Does this sound like you? The next time that you go grocery shopping pay attention to what you are putting into your cart. Is it real food or is it “fake” food. You have the choice to make a difference. Save the extra money that you are spending on “junk” food and use that money to buy fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Get your kids hooked on healthy foods right from the start. It will make a huge difference in your health. And remember, your choices on how you spend your money at the supermarket will show corporations what we want and how we will spend our money. Wouldn’t you like to see higher quality food and products at a decent price? Let these companies know what and how you are willing to spend your hard earned dollars. Expect more. Get more.

Is It Really Important To Buy Orangic?
For more information or to look up a particular food that you eat you can check the list at: http://www.whatsonmyfood.org/ Just click on a food listed on the right. You can also check the difference between pesticides found on organic vs. non-organic. Often times organic food that is imported is found to have some pesticides. So it is wise to buy organic food made in the U.S.
I have listed some of the commonly eaten fruits and vegetables below to get you started.

Sports Drinks Are Not a Healthy Choice!
Less than 1 percent of those who use sports drinks actually benefit from them.
If you exercise for 30 minutes a day, at a moderate intensity, water is the best thing to help you stay hydrated. It’s only when you’ve been exercising for longer periods, such as 60 minutes or more, or at an extreme intensity, such as on a very hot day or at your full exertion level, that you may need something more than water to replenish your body.
Again, the only time you should resort to these drinks is after vigorous exercise, such as cardiovascular aerobic activity, for a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour, and you’re sweating profusely as a result of that activity.
Anything less than 45 minutes will not result in a large enough fluid loss to justify using these high-sodium, high-sugar drinks. And even if you’re exercising for more than an hour, I still believe there are far better options to rehydrate yourself, such as fresh coconut water.
Fresh coconut water is one of the highest sources of electrolytes known to man, and can be used to prevent dehydration from strenuous exercise or even diarrhea. Some remote areas of the world even use coconut juice intravenously, short-term, to help hydrate critically ill patients and in emergency situations.
So for most average exercisers and athletes out there, sports drinks are a waste of your money. Your best bet for your primary fluid replacement remains pure, fresh water. If you are training hard you can add a pinch of sea salt. Another way is to drink Smart Water or Trader Joes version. Plain filtered water with added electrolytes added.
A couple of alternatives to Gatorade and other toxic sports drinks:

Can Wearing a Bra Cause Cancer?
Many physicians and researchers now agree that wearing a tight fitting bra can cut off lymph drainage, which can contribute to the development of breast cancer, as your body will be less able to excrete all the toxins you are exposed to on a daily basis. Aluminum from antiperspirants, for example, is one potentially dangerous source of toxins that can accumulate if your lymph drainage is impaired
Says Dr. Michael Schacter, M.D. in his article, The Prevention and Complementary Treatment of Breast Cancer:
"Over 85 percent of the lymph fluid flowing from the breast drains to the armpit lymph nodes. Most of the rest drains to the nodes along the breast bone. Bras and other external tight clothing can impede flow.
The nature of the bra, the tightness, and the length of time worn, will all influence the degree of blockage of lymphatic drainage. Thus, wearing a bra might contribute to the development of breast cancer as a result of cutting off lymphatic drainage, so that toxic chemicals are trapped in the breast."
Constricting bras have also been implicated in the rise of benign (non-cancerous) but often painful breast cysts and lumps. Says Dr. John McDougall, M.D., in his book titled The McDougall Program for a Healthy Heart:
"After repeated bouts of inflammation, the breasts develop scar tissue in many places, and some of the milk ducts become plugged, forming cysts. Fibrocystic breast disease, not surprisingly, is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer."
You can avoid some of the improper drainage issues if you wear a bra that is properly fitted. But far worse for your health than tight or ill-fitting bras is the most popular type of all -- the underwire bra. It’s important to realize that nearly all underwire bras contain metal under wires, coated with plastic. And it is the metal that could ruin your long-term health.
“These reflexes, like all acupuncture points, follow the Law of Stimulation. In the beginning of stimulating a point, it is stimulated - often causing an increase in associated function. Later on, this continued stimulation causes sedation of that point and a subsequent decrease in its associated function. It's a mechanical thing.
If a woman keeps the metal under wires on top of those reflex points, over time that WILL mess up the functioning of the associated circuits: Liver, gallbladder, and stomach.
Bottom Line: It will likely make her sick; slowly and quietly.”
In addition to that, the metal wire can also act as an antenna attracting electromagnetic fields, which can also increase your risk of breast cancer.
Medical anthropologists Sydney Singer and Soma Grismaijer -- authors of Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras -- conducted a study of over 4,000 women, and found that women who do not wear bras have a much lower risk of breast cancer.
Their findings included:
Women who wore their bras 24 hours per day had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer
Women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day, but not to bed, had a 1 out of 7 risk
Women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day had a 1 out of 52 risk
Women who wore bras rarely or never had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer
The overall difference between women who wore their bras 24-hours a day and those who did not wear bras at all was a 125-fold difference. Based on the results of this study, the link between bras and breast cancer is about three times greater than the link between cigarette smoking and cancer.
Singer and Grismaijer also found that about 90 percent of fibrocystic patients improve when they quit wearing bras.
One 1991 study, published in the European Journal of Cancer, found that premenopausal women who did not wear bras had half the risk of breast cancer compared with bra users.
Wearing metal on your body is something you generally want to avoid, and since many women wear their bras for the better part of the day, it would be sensible to find a healthier alternative to your metal underwire bras. If you feel you need the underwire, please consider switching out the metal wire in your favorite bra for a plastic wire. You may be able to find them in your local fabric store, or you can purchase them online.
Simply replacing your metal underwires with plastic ones are your best alternative solution if you don’t want to forego the underwire entirely.
You can easily do this on your own simply by snipping a tiny hole in the fabric at the end of the underwire, on the inside of your bra. Slide the old wire out and replace it with the plastic wire, which can easily be cut to the correct length to fit. Then throw a few stitches across the hole to keep the wire from sliding out of the casing.
BraMakersSupply.com is one of the few companies that carry the whole range of plastic wire sizes and ship across the world. And at $2 per pair, protecting your long-term health couldn't be much more affordable.
